Superior Construction to Rehab Concrete on Two Sections of I-95 in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Superior Construction, an American family-owned infrastructure contractor, is poised to begin concrete rehabilitation work on two sections of Interstate 95 in Jacksonville, Florida. The 4,500-foot-long northern section is centered around the Max Leggett Parkway (Airport Road) Interchange, while the 3,300-foot-long southern section is in the downtown area between the Fuller Warren Bridge and the Myrtle Street Overpass. This concrete rehabilitation is needed in part because Jacksonville is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. An average of 167,000 vehicles cross the I-95 Fuller Warren Bridge every day.

To complete the work safely, crews will utilize a combination of lane closures and detours of I-95. They will operate primarily at night and on weekends in order to minimize disruption to the traveling public. To ensure all lanes are ready to be reopened on time in the mornings, Superior will use a rapidly curing concrete mix. Once chemicals are added to the concrete, workers have only 15 minutes to place and finish it before the mix becomes unworkable. Superior estimates it will take approximately 1,900 cubic yards of concrete to complete the work.

This project is planned for a little more than a year in contract time. It is expected to begin in mid-November and be completed by November of 2025.
