“Gilbane is excited to collaborate with SchenkelSchultz Architects and Manatee County Schools to upgrade and add vital new buildings to the school campus,” said James Caldwell, Southwest Florida Business Leader, Gilbane Building Company. “We know that the work at Palmetto High School will serve the community for years to come, and we look forward to the continued partnership.”
Opening in 1957, Palmetto High School last underwent major renovations in the early 2000s. The current renovations will also include a new bus loop and roadway entrance.
“The scope and scale of the renovations to Palmetto High will be a source of pride not only for the high school and its many supporters, but for the City of Palmetto as well,” said Superintendent Cynthia Saunders. “I want to thank our School Board for their leadership in making this project possible and for the citizens of Manatee County who supported the half-cent sales tax in November 2016 to make sure our students have access to first-class facilities.”
The $39 million project, funded from the sales tax revenue, will include upgrades and renovations to the campus baseball stadium, comprising of new dugouts, concession stand, lockers, restrooms, press box, offices, bleachers, and a new marquee.

Construction on the major renovation project will be done in phases to allow campus activity to continue without disruption, and the completion goal is set for the summer of 2024.
