Skanska Selected to Build North Carolina State University’s New Integrative Sciences Building

RALEIGH, NC — Global development and construction firm Skanska has been selected to build the new Integrative Sciences Building (ISB) at North Carolina State University (NC State). With a total construction budget of $136.7 million, the 164,947-square-foot facility will be dedicated to STEM teaching and research and is set to serve as a catalyst for transforming the sciences at the university.

As the physical core of NC State’s new Integrative Sciences Initiative, the ISB will showcase and celebrate the sciences at the university. The facility will feature a cafe, classrooms, teaching labs, core research facilities, collaboration and study spaces, as well as office areas. The project allows for adaptability to support interdisciplinary sciences such as chemistry, biochemistry, and biotechnology research.

"This new facility will contribute significantly to North Carolina State’s new Integrative Sciences Initiative and revitalize the marquee Brickyard, one of the nine hallowed places on the north campus," said Mark Balling, Executive Vice President responsible for Skanska’s North Carolina and Virginia building operations. "We are focused on building on our long-standing relationship and delivering a facility that will meet the university’s functional needs and embody its commitment to innovation and collaborative learning for decades to come.”

Working with architectural firm Moseley Architects and their design consultants, the building design will promote creativity and collaboration and showcase and celebrate North Carolina State University’s sciences. The project will be LEED Gold certified. The project is expected to be completed in September 2026.
